ANU is a great place to conduct research, and there's a lively program of seminars.
Before applying
All potential visitors should make contact with an academic sponsor in the School of Language Studies who will support their application, before applying to visit. Click HERE for a list of staff and their research interests.
We consider the following when deciding on applications: the standing of the applicant relative to opportunity; the quality of their work; and the extent to which their work will enhance the academic life of the School. We may also consider whether we have an agreement of academic cooperation with the applicant’s home Institution. The University is also a party to a number of International networks. Visiting Fellows
We welcome the opportunity to host established scholars from overseas and around Australia who wish to spend a month or more visiting ANU pursuing research that links in with research interests of the School. Visitors provide a valuable opportunity for the exchange of ideas and research.
Departmental Visitors
Departmental Visitors are normally scholars whose visits to the Department for research purposes are of relatively short duration.
Visiting Scholars
Graduate students enrolled at other Australian universities or overseas are eligible to apply for affiliation as Visiting Scholars. As Visiting Scholars, graduate students can avail themselves of the resources of the School and the ANU, usually for periods of between several weeks to a few months. Applications addressed to the Head of Department consist of brief statement of research goals, dates of affiliation, current CV, and letter of support from PhD supervisor.
Facilities for Visitors
We provide visitors with library privileges, e-mail and web access. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own laptop computers to continue their research and writing while in residence. Subject to availability, shared access to office space, a computer, and limited photocopying may be provided.
With advance notice of a year, some visitors whose work ties particularly closely with that of their academic sponsors may be able to apply for some funding towards their visit.
In return for our support, we expect visitors to participate in seminars, to consult with interested graduate students, and to participate in the general life of the Department. We also ask you to report promptly on any publications resulting from the research you conduct while a visitor.
